Welcome to the listserv of the JNC Network, a new =
national association
of judicial nominating commissioners and commission staff members. This
listserv is designed as a way to foster communication so that =
commissioners and
staff can better understand how nominating commissions around the =
country
operate and how to promote the best possible merit selection =
systems.
Any listserv subscriber can post at any time. Your =
messages
to the listserv may consist of questions to fellow commissioners or =
staff members,
comments on current events or controversies that directly implicate =
judicial nominating
commissioners, descriptions of practices or procedures that you believe =
can be
examples for other states, or informational requests. If there’s
something that you think is worthy of discussion, we want to know about
it.
Any message posted to the listerv may be screened by =
the
JNC Network Administrator and/or staff members of the American =
Judicature
Society. This screening process is not intended to limit participation =
or
comments, and no one will edit the text of messages before posting them =
to the
listserv. If a message is not appropriate and/or relevant, it will not =
be
posted.
The JNC Network is a project of the American =
Judicature
Society (AJS) through a grant from the Open Society Institute. AJS is a
national, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization of lawyers, judges, =
scholars and
citizens who work to improve the administration of justice. AJS has =
supported
merit selection for nearly a century and today we continue our =
commitment to
advocate the adoption of merit selection, as well as to maintain and =
improve
existing merit selection systems. To find out more about who we are, you =
can
visit our website at www.ajs.org.
The JNC Network builds on decades of work with =
nominating
commissions and the legislative, executive, and judicial staff persons =
who
support their work. The JNC Network website is =
organized
to provide resources and publications about all aspects of judicial =
nominating
commissions, including the structure and operation of JNCs nationwide, =
the AJS Handbook for Judicial Nominating =
Commissioners,
and current news stories related to judicial nominating =
commissions.
Three AJS staff members look forward to working with =
the
JNC Network:
