From mreddick at ajs.org Tue Jul 27 11:51:51 2010 From: mreddick at ajs.org (Malia Reddick) Date: Tue Jul 27 13:28:18 2010 Subject: [jnc_network] New online info about KS JNCs Message-ID: <005101cb2dac$031f7850$095e68f0$@org> AJS wants to recognize the important step that Kansas has taken to make its nominating process more transparent. Following the example of Colorado , which provides an overview of each judicial nominating commission as well as links to commission rules and a membership roster, Kansas now provides links to information about each of its district nominating commission. This is a particularly important step to take in states that, like Colorado and Kansas, have several local nominating commissions in addition to a statewide commission. Our JNCs are interested in adding a new section to our JNC Handbook on "Suggested Questions." We previously had several pages of questions in the Handbook just to give new commissioners an idea of the types of questions they could use. It was also very beneficial to the non-lawyers on the commission. The "old" set of questions are in need of revising because of their age and current political correctness. We are currently working on this. We recently have had a labor law lawyer speak on interviewing techniques during a JNC Training who also had some suggested questions for commissioners to use. I am attaching both sets of questions. I would be intersted in knowing if your state had anything similiar that they would be willing to share. 2. Alternative ways of submitting Judicial Applications - - we are exploring other means by which to submit the application and other documents to a JNC. Some of our commissions are accepting them electronically, on a CD, or a combination of both. Most still prefer paper. We would be interested in finding out if your state accepts other formats during judicial vacancies, what those might be. Additionaly, how do you deal with privacy/confidentiality issues. 3. Public Records Requests - - how does your state deal with these type requests; who is responsible for redating the information, etc. These are all areas we are working on. If you have any information to share, we'd love to have it!! Vicki Brand The Florida Bar vbrand@flabar.org 850/561-5758 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
